With deep roots in Durham, North Carolina, Katie Basden has spent most of her life making a home inside a song. Raised in a family where musical influences crossed genres and generations, she began pursuing music professionally at just 15 before moving to Nashville at 18, a leap that would begin a now 16-year journey through the many corners of the music industry.

A Southern Americana artist at heart, Katie’s sound lives at the intersection of country storytelling, soul, rock, and blues, anchored by a voice that is at once powerful, effortless, and unmistakably her own. That voice first introduced her to a national audience as a Top 20 finalist on NBC’s The Voice, where she worked with Adam Levine before joining Blake Shelton’s team. Her original song “Gypsy Prophet” later earned Best Country Video Performance in American Songwriter Magazine’s 30th Anniversary Song Contest, while her sophomore project, Release the Sound, further established an artist unafraid to let honest storytelling and musical instinct lead the way.

In the years since, Katie’s career has expanded far beyond any one lane. She has lent her voice to recordings for artists including Celine Dion and Iam Tongi, while becoming a trusted vocalist, performer, producer, and creative collaborator both onstage and in the studio. Most recently, she has performed alongside Maggie Rose at the Grand Ole Opry and Austin City Limits and produced a full-length record at Nashville’s The 1979.

Katie was also selected as a featured vocalist for Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony, a symphonic reimagining of Dolly’s legendary catalog personally curated by Dolly herself. During the premiere, Katie’s performance of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” earned a standing ovation from Dolly, and a backstage review only Dolly could give: “You sang your ass off! Well, actually, you sang MY ass off!”

But after years spent moving between her own artistry and helping bring the music of others to life, Katie is returning to the songs that started it all.

She is currently in the beginning stages of recording a live acoustic project built from songs written throughout her 16 years in Nashville—some born in seasons of becoming, others carried quietly with her as life and career unfolded around them. Stripped back to voice, story, and song, the project offers a look at the songwriter behind the résumé and the life behind the voice.

For Katie, it feels less like looking backward after 16 years in Nashville, but instead opening the songbook.
