Katie Basden Releases “LeadinG The Choir”
A Soulful Anthem Turning Inner Voices Into Collective Strength
About the song
Nashville, TN – Southern Americana artist Katie Basden has announced the release of her powerful new single “Leadin’ The Choir,” a bold and honest song that shines a light on mental health struggles and the voices we all carry inside. The track will be available on [insert release date] across all streaming platforms.
With vivid imagery and soul-stirring vocals, Basden names the voices of fear, jealousy, and doubt, painting a raw picture of how they can shape our lives. But instead of letting them win, she flips the script: “I got voices… and I’m leading the choir.” The result is an anthem of resilience, transformation, and hope.
“Leading the Choir came to me over several different parts of my life, but I wrote the very first line, “silence, it’s the loudest thing inside my head,” at 12 years old while sitting at the piano in my childhood home and processing a death in my family. The culimination of the song came to me in July of 2019 when my own inner voices felt overwhelming. Fear, jealousy, doubt, they were louder than truth. I realized the only way to move forward was to call them out, name them, and then LEAD them. I think a lot of people will hear themselves in this song, and I hope it helps them feel less alone.”

A Campaign for Awareness and Healing
The release of “Leading The Choir” is paired with a mental health awareness campaign designed to amplify the song’s message and give back:
#LeadingTheChoir Social Challenge: Fans are invited to write down the “voice” they struggle with—fear, shame, jealousy—then rip, erase, or cover it while the chorus plays. Each video ends with: “I’m leading the choir.”
Community Choir Project: A special music video will feature clips from fans, choirs, and support groups singing the chorus together.
Nonprofit Partnerships: A portion of proceeds from streams and downloads will support mental health organizations including [insert partners].
